Kirk and Hayley started the year 2017 full of hope and optimism. Kirk’s self-employment was going well and Hayley was about to start a new job at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, a place she knows well, having worked there before and where her Dad has worked for many years. They decided to move from Swindon to Shrivenham, to be handy for Hayley’s new job and closer for Kirk’s self-employed work in Oxford. They found a lovely house and enrolled their daughters in the local school and nursery.
Kirk and Hayley Ward and their children had their lives turned upside down when Kirk was diagnosed with non-hodgkin’s lymphoma a few weeks ago.
Apart from the shock of the news, Kirk is self-employed and his income stopped when he became too ill to work. Their families have been supporting Kirk and Hayley as much as they can and this week friends set up a JustGiving page for Kirk, with the aim of raising £3000, which will cover three month’s rent for the family.
The response so far has been amazing and £1000 was raised in the first three days. Kirk and Hayley have been overwhelmed at people’s kindness, generosity and support.
Hayley said: “The response has been incredible and to know that everyone is rooting for us has really cheered up Kirk and the whole family. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated. The money will make a big difference and help to tide us over while Kirk undergoes six months of chemotherapy at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital, where the staff have been wonderful.”
