Swindon Wildcats star Sam Bullas knows just how hard it can be to care for someone.

The ice hockey forward spent several weeks travelling to and from his family home in Nottingham to help his sisters care for his mother when she was ill. Fortunately, she has now made a full recovery.

But the experience meant Sam was more than happy to lend a hand at an event organised to mark Carers Rights Day.

Carer Support Wiltshire teamed up with Swindon Carers Centre to run information stands at the town’s Great Western Hospital, and Sam came along to chat to staff and volunteers.

“When my Mum was ill I would go back to Nottingham for about a week at a time, and help look after her,” said Sam, who is also the Wildcats’ community officer. “Work were brilliant, and let me take off as much time as I needed, and even understood if I had to miss matches, but it was a difficult time. I had no idea there were organisations out there to help carers like me, which is why events like Carers Rights Day are so important.”

Similar events were held by Carer Support Wiltshire at Chippenham, Savernake, Warminster and Salisbury hospitals, all with the same message for carers – don’t miss out on services and benefits.

Carer Support Wiltshire is a registered charity offering support, information, advice and break opportunities to people looking after family members and friends across Wiltshire.

Any carers who feel they are missing out, can get help and advice from Carer Support Wiltshire by visiting at http://carersinwiltshire.co.uk/ or by calling Freephone 0800 181 4118.
