Wiltshire Police were involved in a two-mile pursuit yesterday, after attempting to make a routine traffic stop in Swindon town centre.
On Thursday, 24 June, police officers attempted to carry out a routine traffic stop on a vehicle in Groundwell Road at 2.40pm.
The driver of the vehicle, a green BMW, failed to stop and drove off.
It was followed by a police vehicle, and a few minutes later, the BMW crashed into a hedge in Ringwood Close, Park North, and the driver left the vehicle and ran off.
Officers followed on foot and shortly after located a man in a garage in Arlington Close.
A 20-year-old man, from Swindon, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, driving a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, failing to stop when requested by a police officer, theft of a motor vehicle and using a vehicle without insurance.
He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
