Swindon Libraries to switch to new eBook and eAudiobook provider

Library users will continue to have access to free books online when Swindon Libraries and Information Service switches to a new eBook and Audio provider.

From Monday 16 November Borrowbox will replace the current service provided by Overdrive enabling library members to browse eBooks and audiobooks online and download the ones they like to computers, eBook readers or other compatible devices.

To enable the change in provider to take place, the online service will be unavailable for seven days from this Monday 9 November.

The eBooks also have an added advantage over traditional books in that there are no fines. At the end of the loan the item is automatically returned so library members will not be liable for any fines.

Library members can have up to three items checked out at any one time for either a seven-day or 14-day loan period. The service is free to members, but the council will review its charges annually.

Items cannot be renewed, but can be checked out again if they are available when the checkout expires. Up to three items can also be reserved online.

Library users can also view and download a range of eMagazines for free from the Zinio eMagazine service: http://tinyurl.com/p64g3cn.
