The attack happened around 3.30am on Monday 14 September, when a 24-year-old local woman was approached, in the town centre, by a man who led her to an area close to The Parade and raped her.

A high-profile operation to find the rapist, including leaflet drops in the Broad Green area of the town and media appeals, made by the victim herself and our officers.

31-year-old Joyce Rodrigues, from Swindon, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court this morning, 30 December, and was remanded in custody following the hearing and will be due in Swindon Crown Court at the end of January 2016.

Rodrigues has been charged with rape and sexual assault.

Detective Inspector Marj MacCallum, who is leading the investigation, said:  “I would like to thank the people of Swindon who have come forward and helped us with our enquiries and investigation, in relation to this case, so far.”
