Police arrest ‘fag thief’ after he smashed into Highworth Co-op

Police officers have arrested a ‘fag thief’ after he was caught smashing a window and climbing into the Co-operative store in Highworth.

A 47-year-old man was in possession of quantity of stolen cigarettes, and he was arrested on suspicion of burglary at the scene in the early hours of this morning.

A local resident, who did not want to be named, said: “The staff said that the fag thief has been caught and they hope this will put and end to constant break-ins.”

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called to a suspected break-in at the Co-op in Highworth at 3.30am today.

“A 47 year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary, he is currently in custody. A quantity of cigarettes were recovered at the scene.”

Wiltshire Police Crime Scene Investigation officers were on scene at around 9am.
