Man arrested following serious sex attack in Swindon town centre

A man has been arrested following a sex attack in Swindon town centre.

Wiltshire Police are investigating a serious sexual assault which occurred in the Read Street/Albion Street area in the late afternoon/early evening of Sunday 26 June.

A woman was sexually assaulted by a man in a property in that vicinity at some point between 4pm and 7pm; the victim is receiving support from specialist officers.

The suspect is described as: white, aged in his twenties, of stocky build and had unkempt, slightly curly, dark blonde hair. He was wearing a white/black hooded top and black ankle boots.

A local man aged in his twenties has been arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Det Sgt Mark Lewis from Swindon CID said: “An investigation is underway and we are treating this report very seriously. I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Read or Albion Street on Sunday between 4-7 pm who saw or heard anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously.

“I am especially interested in hearing from anyone who saw a man in this location matching the description above. Although an arrest has been made, it is very important that anyone with information comes forward as it may be key to our investigation.

“We would also encourage people to be mindful of their personal safety at all times, not just following incidents such as this.”
