A major fire has broken out at Swindon College this evening, fire crews from across the borough are currently in attendance.
The alarm was raised at 4.20pm today, 19 January, after fire broke out in a single storey building at the North Star Avenue campus.
As at 5.45pm, there were six fire engines in attendance – two from Swindon, two from Stratton, one from Westlea and one from Cricklade – with a further four mobilised from Faringdon, Cirencester, Royal Wootton Bassett and Marlborough.
Also in attendance is the aerial appliance from Swindon, which is being used to monitor the incident from above, and an incident command vehicle from Devizes.
Eight breathing apparatus wearers are using two main jets and four hose reel jets to tackle the blaze, which started in a store room alongside a workshop. The building is separate to the main college premises, which are unaffected by the fire.
Everyone who was in the building when the fire broke out has been accounted for. One member of college staff is in the care of the ambulance service on scene.
