A number of large explosions were heard more ten mile away this morning, while dozens of firefighters tackled a major fire in Lechlade, north of Swindon.
Lechlade Memorial Hall went up in flames just before midnight today, Monday 9 May.
It is understood that both Gloucestershire and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service had crews at the scene, battling the blaze.
Fire crews used four jets and one hose to extinguish the hall, leaving the scene at 5.48am.
Residents up to ten miles away in Watchfield have reported hearing a number of large explosions at the Oak Street incident.
No-one was injured in the blaze, and the cause of the fire is now being investigated.
One local resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Swindon 24 reporters that ‘an official’ had told them that the bins were set alight in an arson attack, subsequently causing a major fire. However, this is unconfirmed at this stage.
