Tom Rogers’ killer Jason Voong will serve a hospital order at Broadmoor, a psychiatric hospital, under the Mental Health Act.
Today at Bristol Crown Court, Voong, 29, from Swindon, was made subject to the indefinite hospital order.
On Monday he was found guilty of manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility for the killing of Swindon man Aulton “Tom” Rogers. Tom was stabbed multiple times by Voong on a cycle path near the Oasis Leisure Centre in June last year.
Voong was also found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after attacking Leanne James, also from Swindon, on the same cycle path a few weeks earlier. Leanne was hit several times with a pool cue and suffered serious injuries.
Detective Superintendent Sean Memory said, “I am satisfied with the outcome of this case and the sentencing that’s been passed down today.
Although Mr Voong was suffering with a recognised mental disorder it is clear that he is a violent and dangerous man. I hope this sentence goes some way to comforting Leanne and Tom’s family.”
