Wiltshire Police held their hard-hitting Christmas Drink and Drug Driving Roadshow in Swindon town centre today.
This morning, 17 December, residents had the opportunity to view a car which was involved in a road traffic collision driven by a drink driver.
Police officers also asked shoppers to try out their new simulator, which gives you an idea of how alcohol affects your ability to drive.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We have some very positive comments about our Christmas Drink and Drug Driving roadshow in Swindon today.
“Working alongside Wiltshire and Swindon Road Safety Partnership shoppers were able to see the consequences of drink/drug driving and try a new simulator to see how alcohol affects their ability to drive.”
Sergeant Gavin Brewster, of the Wiltshire Road Safety Unit, said: “Drink and/or drug driving is a very serious offence and innocent lives are put in danger by people who make such a senseless decision.
“We want to ensure that we do all we can to help keep Wiltshire roads safe and a lot of time and effort will be put in to catch those who decide to drink and/or drug drive this Christmas.”
There are two more roadshows this year; 21 December in Trowbridge’s Fore Street and 23 December in Marlborough High Street.
