Emergency services save three people and dogs from sinking canal barge

Firefighters, alongside Wiltshire Air Ambulance and other emergency services rescued a family of three and their two dogs from a sinking boat today.

The canal barge had got stuck in Cadley Lock, just south of Marlborough near Wootton Rivers, this morning, 26 April, at around 11am.

Fire crews from Marlborough, Pewsey and water rescue from Stratton attended.

A spokesperson for Marlborough Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Local units have been assisting our air ambulance and fire and rescue colleagues with a canal barge that had got stuck in the lock near to Wootton Rivers.

“It rapidly took on water and subsequently the boat sank. The family on board are all unharmed, and were checked over by paramedics at scene.”
