A dozen firefighters battle blaze in bedroom of Old Town home

Firefighters have extinguished a bedroom fire in Old Town.

The emergency services were called to Goddard Avenue, near to Commonweal School, at just after 8pm this evening, 20 July, to reports of a house fire.

A fire and rescue service spokesperson said: “We’ve attended a fire at a property in Goddard Avenue at 8.10pm. We dealt with a fire in the second floor bedroom.

“We extinguished the fire using four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets, and we’ve then cleared smoke from the building using ventilation fans.

“The cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation. We will be liaising with the occupiers to try and ascertain the sequence of events leading up to the fire.”

The road was closed by Wiltshire Police until around 9pm.

No one was injured during the incident.
