A woman witnessed a man pinning down her beloved cat and smearing faeces all over its fur with his bare hands on Saturday.
Police officers in North Swindon are now appealing for witnesses of the vile incident.
The Redhouse resident heard her cat yowling outside her Twineham Road address. She looked out to see a disgusting stranger pinning her animal down and rubbing faeces into its fur with his bare hands.
The offender ran away when he saw the owner.
The suspect is described as being a white male in his late twenties, of average height and build with light brown hair and he wore a navy jumper.
Another man who had been watching what happened also ran away with him. The cat suffered scrapes to the body in the attack and had to be checked by a vet.
A spokesperson said: “The man who did this is likely to have returned home with excrement all over his hands and possibly his clothes. Anyone who may be able to help us identify the offender is asked to call PCSO John 6321 on 101.”
