Residents of Toothill and Liden are lucky enough to be featured in the BBC’s new show, Street Auction, presented by Paul Martin.
‘Flog It’s’ Paul Martin and Danny Sebastian from ‘Del Boys and Dealers’ are hosting a street tea party on Saturday, 2 July in Deerhurst Way, Toothill and Sunday, 3 July in Tyron Close, Liden.
The unique element of the programme is that the proceeds of the afternoon will be donated to one deserving person who makes a difference in the neighbourhood through volunteering, supporting charities and groups, or just being a good neighbour. Of course, the worthy nominee won’t know that he or she has been selected for recognition until the end of the afternoon.
Paul and his production crew visited the area to knock on doors and ask for donations of unwanted and unloved items in late May, dropping into Little L’s Paint Your Own Pottery shop at Toothill centre and received a £20 voucher to be auctioned on the day.
These items will be auctioned off at the end of the party, and only then will the nominee find out that the money has been raised for them.
At each party, there will be bric-a-brac stall, cakes sales, refreshments, arts and crafts and possibly a plant stall.
Paul said: “I am loving working on this brand new series, it is a fantastic chance to see true community spirit with neighbours helping neighbours.
“We have already spent a couple of days in Swindon in the past and we met some wonderful people who have been incredibly generous donating items for our bric-a-brac stalls and pop-up auction. There has been everything from antique coins to a driving course. It should be a brilliant weekend and I cannot wait to come back to Swindon for the big party.”
There are 15 shows in the series and Swindon have their two heroes. There were enough nominations that the show is likely to be back in Swindon for the next series.
